WHERE THE BUZZKILLS LIVE

Fleas and Ticks

Fleas and ticks generally do NOT live in well maintained lawns. They like tall grasses up to 2 feet, debris, shaded and dense damp areas which provide adequate protection from the elements. They are active once temperatures reach 45 degrees, and a humidity of 70%. They become active during the month of March and spraying should be started in March to prevent any issues, and continue up until November. Ticks can be active anytime, until freezing temps.

Mosquitoes

Skeeters like areas very similar to fleas and ticks but also under leaves, tree bark and any stagnant water. Skeeters especially like warm and humid climates. They also like water that contains around 1 inch or so, functioning swimming pools are not their cup of tea. However, pools that have been sitting stagnant and not being used are a perfect breeding ground for them. Skeeters become highly active once temperatures reach 75- 80 degrees but can start in temperatures as low as 50 degrees! Spraying usually starts in April to prevent the eggs from turning into larva and treated up until October. There are 4 stages of Mosquito life which are; Egg-Larva-Pupa-Adult. Remember to always to always remove any holdings of stagnant water if possible!
